Music Concerts impacted by Climate Change…

In 2023 the drastic impacts of climate change have been felt in the music industry and noted as consequences for cancellations, changes to performances and more. But what does this mean in the connection to customers…

For the first time customers now are impacted by the impact of climate change in a way never seen before. But the ‘experience’ of customers - in preparation, during and after the event has to be mapped out. We are seeing soaring temperatures affecting how individuals are behaving and, in a way, surviving during the organised events.

We have seen fans collapse, as we have for years, but now more than ever impacted on the atmosphere that they enter for the organised spectacle. The most recent tragic news report of heat was during Taylor Swift concerts in South America. A production that is causing high emotional hysteria with complete fan immersion - and in a way that is its own mapping. The realisation of everything is that we have to better map the customer journey and take ‘climate change’ into account when delivering this types of experiences. This is not only health and safety - but the provision of customer awareness and preparation.

When researching this article and developing the idea - I wrote into google ‘climate change effects on music concerts’ and up popped this article by Billboard: https://www.billboard.com/lists/concerts-affected-climate-change-2023-full-list/ A well established and followed music organisation who are now realising there is themes to cancellations. From flooding in Auckland to the effects of bushfires in Europe - we are not just seeing direct impacts during concerts like tornados taken down stages and freak weather conditions - but indirect. Reading this articles should make music promoters stand up and listen to the work that needs to occur when it occurs to customer experience in terms of handling the future of climate change effects during live events.

The reason for this article is to start a conversation of…’if a fan is immersed so much in the integration of the experience do they realise the true impact of their surroundings?’ Preparing this within a customer experience pathway - will determine better realisation and impact for the future. Our world cannot just churn out concert after concert without understanding - its all different.
